ICE framework
A lightweight way to compare product ideas using Impact, Confidence and Effort.
Also known as: ICE, ICE prioritisation, ICE prioritization, Impact Confidence Effort
On this site, ICE stands for Impact, Confidence and Effort.
Each idea is assessed by its expected impact, the confidence behind that estimate and the effort required to deliver it. A common calculation is:
(Impact × Confidence) ÷ Effort
The score helps compare options, but the inputs are still estimates. ICE works best when scores are revisited as customer evidence and real product data become available.
