Glossary term
Product-market fit
The point at which a product is solving a meaningful problem for a market strongly enough to create sustained demand.
Also known as: PMF, product market fit
Product-market fit describes the relationship between a product and a market that genuinely wants it.
There is no single test that proves product-market fit in every business. Useful signals can include retention, repeated usage, willingness to pay, organic demand, expansion and how customers react when the product is unavailable.
The evidence looks different depending on the size of the market, buying cycle and product.
Product-market fit is better treated as something supported by several signals than as a badge earned after crossing one number.
