SCQA framework
A writing and communication structure built around the Situation, Complication, Question and Answer.
Also known as: SCQA, Situation Complication Question Answer, SCQA method
SCQA organises an argument in a sequence that is easy to follow.
Situation establishes the context the audience already understands.
Complication introduces the change, tension or problem that requires attention.
Question states the issue that must now be resolved.
Answer provides the recommendation or response.
SCQA is useful for strategy narratives, decision papers, product proposals and executive updates. It helps the audience understand why an answer is being proposed instead of receiving a recommendation without its reasoning.
